Picked up their first album on a cassette, mostly on a whim, and it quickly became one of my favorite albums of all time. Gowanus is the follow-up that I wanted it to be, and more. Gravesend's sound manages to be downright filthy and savage, without sacrificing clarity. A bubbling, viscous pool of death metal viscera sprinkled with blackened bits of grindy goodness. Not only do I recommend this album, I recommend you purchase the first album and then listen to the two back-to-back.

An outstanding Extreme doom death album, in the best tradition. The funerary atmosphere reminds of Evoken ('Centuries of ooze" bears striking similarities, for my delight). It is overall sharp, dark, hypnotic and unrelenting. One of those rare convincing new bands that hold proud the legacy of the biggest names.
